Evaluation
Personal Statement:
I found it really difficult to write the first draft of my personal statement I wasn't sure what to write about and how to structure it. However my planning and research really helped to give me a foundation to start from. Although my first draft took the longest to write my drafts after that were improvements on from the original and looking back I can defiantly see the vast improvement from my first to last draft. The feedback I got from my last draft was that my enthusiasm and passion for the subject was evident and that it reads very nicely. I'm really happy with my end result.
Telephone Conversation:
I thought my telephone conversation went well however I am very used to talking on the phone as it's a big part of my current job. However I think I could have used the customers name more to show I'm listening and also given the customer more time to talk. Whereas I found it helpful that I wrote down the customers information and read it back to them. Overall I'm happy with my phone call but I'm aware that I could improve.
Cover Letter:
Before writing my cover letter I researched the structure and different examples of a cover letter this made me feel very prepared to write my own. After reviewing my work I feel I defiantly included the right content (for example why I feel I could do the job) however I don't think it reads particularly well. In the future I could take more time writing the letter as it reads more like a list.
Interview:
After my interview I felt quite confident in my answers however I realised some of my answer weren't specific enough for instance I said we do pitches a lot at college but I didn't give a specific pitch as an example. However after I watched this clip of how the star technique should be used I found I had a few more problems.
Something I noticed from this interview was how calm and relaxed he sounded as if it was a casual conversation. In contrast while on my interview my speech was rushed and sounded slightly urgent. I think this is because I was focusing on correctly remembering what I was going to say and trying constantly to use the star technique. To improve my interview skills I should consider the question and my answer for a few seconds before answering allowing myself to think about what I'm going to say and try to keep a calm tone. The star technique compared with my interview;
Situation:
I found sometimes my situations were too general especially compared to the video interview. Where the professional gave a fairly specific example of a project at university I felt most of mine where more broad which undermined the rest of my answer.
Task:
I was happy with how I explained the task similarly to the video interview my task were explained quickly and I only gave relevant information because I knew how I resolved the issue was more important.
Action:
Comparably I was happy with my overall action part of each answers however I felt sometimes my action and tasks merged together a bit too much and although it still worked the video interview answers were structured better.
Result:
On some of my answers I felt I could have been more specific about how it turned out. Whereas the video interview gave very distinct results which made him sound more sure of himself and his work.
CV:
I think the format and visual look of my CV stands out it's colourful and creative looking but isn't too excessive that it takes away from the information. However I feel that there was a lack of information and detail. Reading my CV back it seems quite plain and the reader can not get a sense of who I am and what I've done. Although all the information is accurate I could have made it more interesting to the reader which would make my CV more successful.
Show Reel;
I was happy with how my show reel looks although it does seem a little empty I can now easily add to it once I have more footage. Something I really liked about my show reel is how it's framed I liked having the black box around the footage so my writing stands out and so does the video. I found it really quick to make which gives me confidence that I will easily be able to add to it through out the year.
Describe a time when you solved a difficult people problem in your course unit 9 project?
While doing my unit 9 project I was about to begin to start filming and had already completed my scheduling when one of my actors couldn't work within my plan. However I just had move my days of production around and it was easily fixed. In the end the schedule flowed well and the production went very well.
Well done, Reese. To improve your grade (you have achieved PASS already) reflect fully upon all of the STAR technique... each part... in comparison with the professional clip you show in your blogger.
