Planning

Preparation for Personal Statement:

Qualities;

Hardworking, Organised, passionate, open minded, enjoy learning.

What I want in my personal statement:

  • My work outside of college with media (Reviews page and helping friends and family)
  • Work Experience with the college.
  • Why I choose media.
  • How media has influenced my life.
  • Talk about my college course (what interests me what skills I have gained)

How to plan my personal statement:

  1. After careful consideration I have decided to do Film studies at Universities.
  2. I have already attended an online open day and have two more booked.
  3. The universities that I liked the look of are; Hull, Warwick and Leicester.

Feedback:

My feedback was to be less negative about my self and elaborate more on certain ideas. I made it sound less negative by putting a more positive spin on what I had written and in some cases deleting sentences all together. I then went into a bit more depth in some areas which I really thinks highlights my passion for the subject.

Second draft:

Feedback:

This time the feedback was primarily to check and correct my grammar and punctuation and had very little to do with content which I feel means it's an improvement.

Interview:

Questions for my interview:

  1. Can you give me an example when you worked under pressure to fix a problem?
  2. Would you say that your confident speaking in front of a group?
  3. Would you say that your capable of working within a time frame?
  4. Do you enjoy working with lots of different people and do you find it easy to communicate with them?
  5. Describe how you would run a project from beginning to end?

Answers for my interview:

  1. While on my media course I was creating a short film. I had already planned my production when the Corona Virus restrictions made my plan impossible. I only had a few days to completely change my production plan and schedule. By organising myself and securing a new crew and cast quickly. In the end I was able to successfully create my film within the time frame.
  2. On my media course I had to constantly pitch my ideas in front of a group of people. The purpose of these pitches was to get feedback on ideas. I find that when I have confidence in what I'm presenting I can talk more passionately and clearly. In order to do that research and refine my idea so I'm able to answer any questions asked.
  3. While at college I was constantly given deadlines and I never missed them I find it helpful to make checklist for each or day and try to give myself goals to get work done each day.
  4. I worked as a waitress for a few years in a pub so I constantly had to communicate with customers and other staff. I found that I could quite easily read people and adjust myself to be able to communicate appropriately with them. This lead to be becoming friends with my colleagues and gaining a mutual respects between myself and the regular costumers.
  5. While at college I had to create a documentary and I was in charge of doing every aspect of the project. I started by coming up with my subject which was different generations of Mothers and then I pitched my idea to my class. Then I extensively researched my subject and also documentary types. After that I filled in production documents and arranged shoots. I then filmed and edited my piece evaluating what I had done throughout. So I would apply this knowledge to overseeing and planning a project.
